Bacteriostatic Water Shelf Life and Storage

September 11, 2026

Bacteriostatic water has a manufacturer expiration date while sealed. Once a vial is first accessed, its usable window shrinks considerably.

Sealed vs opened

Unopened vials keep until the printed date. After the stopper is first punctured, a commonly cited guideline for the preserved multi-use window is up to around 28 days, after which it is typically discarded.

Storage

  • Keep at room temperature unless labeled otherwise.
  • Store away from direct light and heat.
  • Label the date first opened so the usable window is clear.

Following the product label always takes precedence over general guidance. This applies whether the water is being used with medications, peptides, or other research compounds.
